Novel PCM Thermal Management Makes Li-ion Batteries a Viable Option for High Power Applications.
Thermal Management of Li-ion batteries plays a significant role in large power applications. One of the side effects of exposure to high temperature is fast aging and accelerated capacity fade of the Li-ion battery pack. Therefore, maintaining an optimized and continuously regulated temperature necessitates the need for an efficient thermal management system in large Li-ion battery applications. Researchers at the Illinois Institute of Technology Technologies (IIT), Chicago, IL, have proposed and demonstrated successfully a passive thermal management system using PCM for Li-ion batteries for electric car and scooter applications. All Cell Technologies, LLC has licensed the IIT PCM technology (US Patent No. 6,468,689) and is currently working with MicroSun Technologies, LLC on developing high power Li-ion battery packs for various portable and transportation applications. Please contact MicroSun Technologies for a copy of the white paper presenting the results and discussing the first high power Li-ion battery application with PCM thermal management.
